Roofing Underlayment

The Importance of Using Roofing Underlayment

Roofing underlayment is a crucial component of any roofing system, providing an additional layer of protection between the roof deck and the outer roofing material. While often overlooked, this barrier plays a vital role in preventing moisture infiltration, improving durability, and enhancing overall roof performance.

One of the primary functions of underlayment is waterproofing. It acts as a secondary defense against water penetration, preventing leaks caused by wind-driven rain, ice dams, or damaged shingles. This is especially important in areas prone to heavy rainfall or extreme weather conditions.

Underlayment also helps protect the roof deck from damage before the final roofing material is installed. It provides a temporary shield against moisture and UV exposure, ensuring the structure remains intact during construction or repairs.

Additionally, underlayment enhances the lifespan of the roof by reducing wear and tear. It can improve energy efficiency by providing an extra insulation layer, helping regulate attic temperatures, and reducing heating and cooling costs.

Available in materials like asphalt-saturated felt, synthetic underlayment, and rubberized asphalt, underlayment is a necessary investment to ensure long-term durability, weather resistance, and overall structural integrity for any roofing system.

metal roof is a roofing system featuring metal pieces or tiles exhibiting corrosion resistance, impermeability to water, and long life. It is a component of the building envelope. The metal pieces may be a covering on a structural, non-waterproof roof, or they could be self-supporting sheets.
